The speaker at the recent meeting of Kendal Rotary was Nicola Steadman, a volunteer for the charity, ’Boxes of Hope, Cumbria’ who gave a presentation on the work of the Charity.
‘Boxes of Hope’ are a local charity which organises and assembles shoeboxes full of toys, sweets, stationery, hats, scarfs, gloves and similar items, to be sent to Romania.
With five Trustees and 100 volunteers, last year they sent 9363 boxes which are hand delivered by the volunteers to the Transylvania area of the country for distribution to the poorer villages. Whilst there, they look for other ways to help them such as supplying blankets and other community based projects. More information can be found at www.boxesofhopecumbria.co.uk.
