The Club held its 92nd Charter Night at the Carus Green Golf Club on 26th April. Invited guests included the Chair of SLDC, Sylvia Emmott, the Mayor of Kendal, Stephen Coleman, the president of Kendal Inner Wheel, Jean Reynolds and Rotary Assistant District Governor, Richard Attenborough.
There were 110 Rotarians present which included many from other clubs around the district and also many Friends of Rotary. In his speech, the President, Peter Smith, highlighted the achievements of the club during his year of office which culminated in the award of a ‘Paul Harris Fellowship’ to Rotarian Philip Hoyle who over the last few years had been responsible for co-ordinating a project to help the funding and refurbishing of a school in Khiraule, Nepal. He has already raised over £30,000 to help this cause and the work is still continuing since the devastating earthquake which struck Nepal recently had badly affected the village.
